SUMMARY:Scientists from Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS)\, Cosmetic and Fragrance Companies Hold a Hands-On Workshop on Risk Assessment for Skin Allergy
DESCRIPTION:On June 26-27\, 2019 scientists from SCCS\, cosmetic and fragrance companies held a hands-on workshop on risk assessment for skin allergy\, in Brussels. Scientists were dermatologists\, toxicologists\, and risk assessors. The workshop aimed at exploring the use of non-animal defined approaches (DA) for skin allergy. During the first part of the workshop participants exchanged their views on clinical practices\, traditional risk assessment practices\, next generation risk assessments relying on DA and safety requirements. During the second part of the workshop\, all attendees performed four case studies on four initially coded ingredients\, based on a variety of real data from non-animal tools\, to evaluate their risk of skin allergy. Participants had to choose which data and tools they wanted to rely on\, combine them into several ways and compare the outcomes from these combinations of tools. Ingredients were eventually disclosed\, and the debrief consisted in a brainstorming. One of the outcomes was the recognition of the usefulness of the generic integrated workflow used for the assessment. \n
